a year (or 2) to forget?

a year (or 2) to forget?

images
parched earth
red dust storms
trees yearning for rain
day after day
then fire
overwhelming redness
choking smoke
eerie darkness
scars on our people
scars on our land
scars on our wildlife
so real, even on a flat screen
yellow clad
hose in hand
side by side
volunteers
mate helping mate
troops arrive
trained but unbelieving
impossible
our country burning
so many days passed
thousands of homes gone
millions of acres scorched
unknown animals lost
…34 people…
prayers offered
generous donations
perseverance, resilience
incredible bravery
then saving quenching rain
rebuilding, recovering
until the next hurdle
a disease like no other
crossing the world
devastation in its path
brave frontline soldiers again
this time in different masks
caring, helping, trying,
fighting
the silent killer
is there an end
in sight?

a year (or 2) to forget?
